By now you might have heard that Samsung has found themselves in legal hot water as customers from both the US and Korea have filed class-action lawsuits against the company over the Galaxy Note 7. However it looks like Samsung is also working on some kind of compensation program for affected customers.
It was previously suggested that maybe this compensation could come in the form of discounts, but a report out of Korea (via SamMobile) has suggested that this could actually come in the form of a free Galaxy S8 handset, which last we heard was due for a release in 2017. Now free does seem a bit excessive, although if we’re just talking about customers who were directly affected by phones that exploded, we guess that makes sense.
According to Samsung officials who were reportedly quoted by the publication, “The new compensation program is designed to make it easier for those who exchange their Galaxy Note 7 with existing Samsung smartphones, to shift into our next model coming in next year. We think this could an effective program since it also provides some incentives to smartphone vendors.”
Like we said a brand new phone does seem to be a bit over the top, but then again this recall is unprecedented as far as Samsung’s history in the smartphone market is concerned, so maybe something outrageous like this could be warranted. In any case take it with a grain of salt, but hopefully we’ll have more details soon.
